Fallout 4 is going to continue to evolve next year. Earlier this week at the E3 2016 Bethesda press briefing, Bethesda Softworks revealed that Fallout 4 is getting the VR treatment. Per the announcement, Fallout 4 VR is being developed for HTC Vive VR headsets. Bethesda also gave BE3 Plus attendees an early taste of the VR version of Fallout 4.
In Fallout 4 VR, players will be able to explore the world of the game, use the Pip-Boy and interact with Dogmeat all in virtual reality. Speaking on the announcement, Bethesda Global VP of Marketing & PR Pete Hines stated: “We think that VR is the perfect fit for truly immersive games like our massive open-world RPGs. If you thought Survival Mode was an intense Fallout experience… you ain’t seen nothing yet.”
Bethesda also confirmed that the company is converted to VR, and Fallout 4 VR is a glimpse of where the company is heading. While VR tech and hardware certainly seems to have some hurtles, a VR version for Fallout 4 definitely appears to be a step in the right direction. HTC VP of VR Content Joel Breton commented on the news, “We are thrilled to welcome the incredible world of Fallout 4 to the HTC Vive platform. Players are going to be blown away when they experience Fallout 4 VR with the full immersion offered on the Vive.”
Another VR demo that Bethesda is showcasing at E3 this week besides Fallout 4 is DOOM. In the VR demo, gamers can take an actual tour of Hell in the game, offering a look at idTech 6’s next-gen graphics and rendering for DOOM. Hines added, “Since we first showed off modern VR with DOOM 3 BFG at E3 2012, we have dedicated ourselves to the technology, constantly pushing ourselves forward.”
Fallout 4 is available now for Windows PC, Xbox One and PlayStation 4. The release date for the HTC Vive version of Fallout 4 in VR will be revealed later on.
Not all that hyped for VR but this is actually one of the games that would make me interested in it somewhat. Hopefully they do it right but I just wish they put in an option where you won't need to move your head around as much because that just sounds tiring especially after hours of gameplay.
Man, there goes my life. I knew this would happen. Soon, VR will be all that matters because I will have 40,000 hours worth of play experience, only to have another game with 40k hours be released when im only 35k hours in, 🙁
