ArcheAge Thrashed By Ubisoft

by on April 25, 2024

ArcheAge has not been discussed much since it was last reviewed nine years ago, and it won’t be covered much in the future. Its servers in Europe and North America will close on June 27.

“After discussing the performance of ArcheAge with XL Games at length, we have concluded that we’re no longer able to provide the MMORPG we envisioned. The declining number of active players means the game’s content is no longer accessible in the way it used to be, and the experience of it is different from what was originally intended,” says the termination of service announcement.

“In light of this, we’ve made the difficult decision to terminate the live service of ArcheAge in Europe and North America.”

On June 27th, 2024, the servers will shut down at 9 am BST. European and North American customer support will remain open until September 27th.

In other regions, the servers will remain online. According to a FAQ of the announcement, the operators have “implemented IP blocks”, so it’s not possible to transfer accounts.

In western regions, ArcheAge was originally operated by MMO studio Trion Worlds. The studio was later acquired by Kakao Entertainment, the parent company of XLGames. It was designed and originally developed by Jake Song, who previously led the design of classic MMORPG Lineage.

It’s worth noting that XLGames announced the development of ArcheAge 2 in 2020. However, they’re more likely to be working on ArcheWorld, an NFT-based mobile MMO.

Developed by Korean developer Jake Song and his company, XL Games, ArcheAge was released in Korea on January 15, 2013, and in Europe and North America on September 16, 2014.
