MapleStory to Debut on Avalanche Blockchain
The Avalanche blockchain will become the gaming platform for MapleStory, a massively multiplayer game (MMORPG) developed by Nexon. It has over 400,000 daily active users.
“MapleStory N” will be powered by an Avalanche subnet on the namesake blockchain’s cloud network, according to an announcement on March 11. It further emphasized that “to proceed without a separate implementation partner, providing greater convenience, more support options, and quick time to market” and offer users new opportunities.
“Users can build out enticing new worlds, extending gameplay, and adding their footprint to the MapleStory Universe,” the post continued. Even as the game is set to launch sometime in 2024, there are ambitious prospects from the studio..
According to Angela Son, MapleStory Universe’s partnership lead, the move will open new horizons for the MMORPG. “Our partnership with Ava Labs will allow us to build a stable and complete blockchain ecosystem, enabling us to securely service various dApps along with MapleStory N to amplify our competitiveness,” commented
With over 180 million players worldwide, MapleStory is one of the most popular games in the Asia-Pacific region. MapleStory Universe, the company’s Web3 venture, uses several nonfungible tokens (NFTs) to enhance its in-game experience.
In addition, on March 22, 2023, Nexon selected the Ethereum solution Polygon to power Maplestory’s blockchain ecosystem. According to Nexon, Maplestory’s Polygon supernet built by Polygon Labs will enable players to earn and collect in-game items.
As traditional financial heavyweights, such as JPMorgan and Citi, partner with the Avalanche Foundation, the company gains terrain. These magnates are seeking real-world asset tokenization initiatives and new technological deployments on its blockchain.
Moreover, over 100 million Avalanche tokens have been minted since the inscription tokens were created in 2023. As of Jan. 15, various news agencies reported that Avalanche tokens drew record user interest amid a hype of Bitcoin BRC-20 inscription tokens. As MapleStory rolls out on the platform, the skies will remain the limits.
