Blizzard has revealed the numbers behind their biggest ever beta test as they put Overwatch through its paces, and through gamers experiences, and the results are staggering.
Over 9.7 million players logged on to test the game for a total of 4.9 billion minutes, which adds up to over 81 million hours, across 37 million matches.
“Our mission was to make sure as many console and PC gamers as possible could experience the game ahead of its launch,” Mike Morhaime, CEO of Blizzard Entertainment, said.
“The response was overwhelming, and we hope that everyone had a blast.”
Even the official Overwatch Twitter Account got in on the action as they celebrated the incredible number:
“The world needed heroes, and an incredible 9.7 MILLION of you answered the call. Here’s to our next adventure!”
The game looks and plays great so I'm not that much surprised that it's doing this well even at this early stage. The developers are really showing how much experience they have by how good this game is already even at beta.
This is the real perk of the Blizzard-Battlenet launcher. Anyone who plays any Blizzard game pretty much is guaranteed to have downloaded it and at least tried it for a few minutes, which allows Blizzard to send out these type of press releases. They announced this thing weeks in advance on the battlenet launcher and make the download very painless.
