The Witcher 2 Is Finally Playable on Xbox One! Find Out How to Access Assassins of Kings for Free!

by on January 21, 2016

The Witcher franchise fans who have desperately wanted to play The Witcher 2: Assassins of Kings on Xbox One are finally in luck. Previously, the game was exclusive to Xbox 360 and Windows PC, but that’s no longer the case. CD Projekt RED has officially announced that the second installment in The Witcher video game franchise is now playable on the Xbox One via the console’s backward compatibility feature.

But that’s not even the best part. Xbox One owners can play the landmark installment in the franchise for free. The game is available as a free-to-download title for a limited time. The digital download is available in the United States, Canada, United Kingdom, France and Germany. The special giveaway will be running over the course of the next few weeks, starting today, and it will end on February 5 at 12 a.m. UTC.

This is definitely a nice way for CD Projekt RED to give back to the fans after an uber-successful 2015 with an amazing launch for The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt, and it’s first major expansion, Hearts of Stone. Not to mention the fact that CD Projekt RED took home the Developer of the Year and Game of the Year awards at the 2015 Game Awards. The Witcher 3 also took home RPG of the Year too.

The Witcher 2: Assassin of Kings continues the story of Geralt of Rivia, who is put in a thought-provoking tale that produced one of the most complex and unique RPGs ever released. The game features a complex combat system with a great deal of tactical depth.

Xbox One players can learn more about the backward compatibility of the console at this link. Now if only CD Projekt RED could figure out how to port remastered editions of The Witcher and The Witcher 2 to PlayStation 4.
