The web is flooding with chatter and rumors have it that Final Fantasy XIV will be making its way to Microsoft’s Xbox very soon. Where did all this come from? Did Microsoft or Sony or Square Enix say something? Is there a standing agreement released that has flooded a ray of hope to this decade-old drama?
Square Enix’s producer and director, Naoki Yoshida, shared the good news on stage at the game’s 2023 fanfest in Las Vegas, NV. He was accompanied by Microsoft Gaming CEO, Phil Spencer. The Xbox Series X/S version will offer 4K graphics and faster load times, like its PlayStation 5 counterpart. however, gamers should know that the full release is still almost a year away, and only an open beta will be available when patch 6.5x arrives in the foreseeable future.
History – Why Final Fantasy XIV Is not on Xbox
In 2014, Square Enix released Final Fantasy XIV only to Sony Play Station stating that they were not cozy with Microsoft’s crossover policy. Nine years rolled on and that did not change. Each time that the question was risen, a common reply was given, ‘We are working with Microsoft and things are moving in the right direction.’
Even when Sony snub the crossover possibility for Fortnite, and Microsoft dropped its objections to the practice, no change came. And the Xbox fans spent almost a decade waiting for the game. It never materialized on Xbox. So what has changed?
Why the Sudden Yes to Xbox from Final Fantasy XIV?
So, it is almost a done deal. Microsoft will acquire Activision Blizzard and Sony did not want to lose Call of Duty, etc, so it signed a ten-year binding agreement with Xbox. Would Microsoft return with empty hands? It doesn’t seem so. Square Enix has landed little or no choice but to open up to good old Bill and make leeways for Xbox.
