The Curtain Comes Down on Black Eye Games

It is the end of the road for game development studio Black Eye Games. The Polish company will close its servers after 11 years of MMO gaming.

It was not long ago when the Polish studio, Black Eye Games stepped into the limelight. It quickly stole the hearts of the MMORPG community with some niche-specific games. The studio’s portfolio includes games such as Siege Survival, Gloria Victis, and Nadir: A Grimdark Deckbuilder.

Since 2012, the company has led a diverse team into the minds of gamers. However, the financial strains of running the games and limited room to maneuver, the studio is been forced to shut down.

According to an announcement that accompanied its latest and final upgrade, the company had little choice.

“Nothing can last forever, and after thinking it through for countless times, we have to make the toughest decision ever.

“Mostly due to financial reasons, as our game has always been a niche which we found extremely hard to expand without losing the game’s identity, and required more and more resources to progress and keep the pace, and due to continuous work without required rest for so long which eventually led to burnouts, we won’t be able to provide required maintenance on the game much longer.”

However, the company has had a run of tough luck during its eleven years. In January 2023, Gloria Victis was released to the general public after six years of early access. Construction began in 2012, but a Kickstarter failed to meet its goal. A pre-alpha version of the game was released in 2013 through gloriavictisgame.com.

In addition, the game did not do very well. There aren’t a lot of players for Gloria Victis: Steam Charts says it had a peak concurrent player count of 4,175 just after full release. However, it has fallen to fewer than 700 in the last month.

The studio will close on October 31, 2023.
