Steam Releases Best of 2023 List
Steam has released its list of the best games for 2023 based on various categories including top sellers, most played, and new releases. Each category is measured based on usage and sales even though the monetary amounts are not included in the report.
Instead, Steam has created a unique way to measure performance by ranking the games in four color categories. Steam posted below the lists:
“Revenue specifics are not disclosed for the games on any of these lists, so we group them into randomly sorted buckets to give an idea of how they all stacked up:”
The list is classified as follows:
- Platinum: 1st – 12th
- Gold: 13th – 24th
- Silver: 25th – 50th
- Bronze: 51st – 100th
Another interesting about the list is that it carries the available sales price on these games along with the discount percentage. The current prices reflect the Steam winter sale values.
The games on the Steam Best of 2023 list showcase “data from January 1st, 2023 through December 15th, 2023.” Here are some MMORPGs that made it to the list.
When looking at the first list based on revenues, Top Sellers, Lost Ark, Destiny 2, and APEX Legends all sit in the Platinum category alongside Baldur’s Gate 3 and Cyberpunk 2077. Warframe and War Thunder sit in the Gold category, as well as Netease’s battle royale Naraka: Bladepoint.
The next category looks at the most played games, based on the average number of concurrent players during the year. With over 300K peak players, Lost Ark and Destiny 2 are the top two games for most played, while Path of Exile and Naraka rank in the Gold category with over 150K peak players.
It is essential to note that many of these games can also be downloaded on other platforms, which means that Steam Deck users make up only a portion of the total Steam audience. As a result, MMOs appear at the bottom of the list when sorting based on the most Steam Deck plays in 2023.
