Square Announces The World Ends With You Sequel

by on December 2, 2020

Remember The World Ends With You for the Nintendo DS? The 2007 cult hit has received renewed attention from Square recently,  including an anime adaption now in production and a full-on remake for the Switch, but is there now more on the way?

Square has announced NEO: The World Ends With You, a follow-up for PlayStation 4 and Nintendo Switch. The game’s new main character, Rindo, will play the same role as Neku from the original: sucked into the Reaper’s Game, he’ll be given seven days to fight for his life on the streets of Shibuya.

While this could be a sequel, it could also be a prequel. Neku is nowhere to be seen, but Sho Minamimoto appears in the trailer, and he was a reaper in the DS game, but here he appears to be just a player. Is this a before-story, or was he just demoted? We’ll find out..

What do you think of the below trailer, and what do you expect from the World Ends With You sequel when it arrives in 2021? (Or prequel, whatever it turns out to be?)
