In a series of posts on his Twitter account Mass Effect Andromeda lead writer Chris Schlerf confirmed that he has left the Mass Effect developer BioWare. What’s next? He’s now moving to another big developer in Bungie, the developer for the massive franchise Destiny. You can check out Schlerf’s tweets announcing the news below.
It doesn’t look like there is any bad blood between Schlerf and Bungie, and it was a practical move for him as he has relocated back to his home in the Seattle area. Schlerf praised his experience working at BioWare and the staff he worked with there. In addition, he said that he expects Mass Effect Andromeda to “blow people away,” writing that he “couldn’t be prouder to be a part of it.”
What is interesting, this is the second major developer and staff member for Mass Effect Andromeda to leave the company over the last couple of months. Late last December, Mass Effect’s senior development director, Chris Wynn, also confirmed that he was leaving BioWare.
One imagines as the story writer that the majority of Scherlf’s work on the game is already done. However, is BioWare going through these staff changes a cause for concern when the game is targeted for a release in the next year or so? Hopefully, this won’t cause too many problems for the final product.
Mass Effect Andromeda is being targeted for a release in the second half of the fiscal year. It’s being developed for PlayStation 4, Xbox One and Windows PC.
To confirm what some folks asked about a few months back, I am no longer working on ME:A at BioWare Montreal.

Think MEA is really gonna blow people away; couldn't be prouder to be part of it, & excited like a lil kid to play the final when it's out.

All that said, very happy to be back in Seattle, working with this scrappy little company called Bungie that some of you may have heard of.
