Conan the Barbarian Is Back! Get All the Details for Conan Exiles Here!
FuncomĀ is taking a return back to the world of Robert E. Howard’s fantasy, pulp story Conan the Barbarian. The company has officially announced Conan Exiles, a new type of open-world world survival game that is set in the world of Howard’s Hyborian Age. The game set for an Early Access release this summer, with a full console and PC launch planned for later on.
In Conan Exiles, players assume the role of an exile cast off to fend for themselves in the wasteland. Players will have grow crops, hunt animals, get resources to build weapons and tools and shelter to survive. The game will be an MMO experience. Players can fight other players to dominate the exiled lands or band together to build settlements and even fortified strongholds.
Speaking on the announcement of Conan Exiles, Funcom creative director Joel Bylos stated:Ā “There is no better setting for an open-world survival game than the world of Conan. Hyboria is a harsh and unforgiving land where only the strongest can survive while the weak are swiftly cut down. Whether it is hunting animals for food, fighting monsters and other players, or building entire settlements, we want to make sure players feel like they are really fighting to survive and prosper in the most brutal fantasy world ever.”
Conan Properties CEO Fredrik Malmberg added on the announcement:Ā “What Funcom is doing with ‘CONAN EXILES’ is capturing the essence of Conan and his worldThe fight for survival in Conan’s savage world has been chronicled in comics, movies, and novels, and now you too will get to experience the same struggle to achieve domination over the exiled lands.”
While the game is described as a multiplayer experience, Funcom says the game can be played on private and public servers. It will also feature some type of single-player mode. That element sounds interesting, and one wonders if that version will actually involve Conan and how that will play out.
