Speaking to Gamespot, Olympic medalist and former UFC women’s bantamweight champion revealed that she’s a big fan of World of Warcraft, and the reason she got into the series might surprise you. Despite being a renowned combat athlete around the world, and her MMA career where she’s known for submitting her opponents with vicious armbars, Rousey is into a lot of “geeky” stuff. She loves Dragon Ball Z. She’s also a huge fan of Pokemon.
In World of Warcraft, Rousey’s character is a Night Elf Hunter. She also uses an Elf Rogue. However, she really got into the series because of the film and not the game’s longstanding reputation. According to Rousey, she started playing the games “as role research” despite knowing she would never get a role in the film. Rousey actually has a burgeoning film career. She’s already appeared onscreen in Entourage, The Expendables 3, and Furious 7. After looking into World of Warcraft, she really got into the game series and became a fan. The movie getting made got her interested into the original game series.
Speaking on the Warcraft franchise becoming a movie, Rousey stated: “It’s kinda cool when two worlds connect like when they make a movie based on a book, and you go buy the book because you know if the book is being made into a movie it must be pretty good. I think they should make more movies based on video games to be honest. I think that would be really cool.”
The Warcraft live-action movie will hit theaters on June 10. As for video games, Ronda Rousey will be a featured fighter on the roster for EA Sports UFC 2, due out later this summer. She will also be on the cover for the game alongside UFC featherweight champion Conor McGregor.
