Riot Games Announces Updates for League of Legends
A new dev update for the 2024 League of Legends season has been released by Riot Games. The update highlights several new changes designed to improve the player experience. This will be the first large-scale patch for the new year.
As far as changes are concerned, the game’s matchmaking has been calibrated to better recognize differences in skill levels. Riot doesn’t get into too much detail to avoid players exploiting their efforts, but it pledges to take action against smurfing in the game.
In addition, new content is coming in 2024 as well. Players can expect these adjustments to increase gameplay immersion.
- Skarner will get a visual and gameplay overhaul sometime in the first half of the year,
- An unspecified character from Arcane will be updated next,
- And Shyvana will get special nods.
- Rakan, Ezreal, Kindred, Evelynn, and Kayle will be receiving Prestige skins in the first half of this year.
- Lee Sin’s ASU is almost complete and he’ll be coming out in early May.
Furthermore, On January 9, Smolder the Fiery Fledgling will arrive on the PBE with Arcane Season 2. Vastayan, a solo lane mid-range mage champion, will follow sometime later. Ambessa Medarda, first introduced in Arcane Season 1, will appear in Arcane Season 2.
However, the update was not only about the perks that will be coming this year. Riot Games also pointed out drastic changes to its security system. These seem geared at reducing and controlling cheats. The list is a bit long, so here are a few pointers.
- Vanguard, our anti-cheat software, is coming to League to help combat bots and cheaters
- Vanguard will allow us to hardware ban offenders and do live match termination, refunding LP to players in impacted games
Riot Games seems ready to go a long way this year. Improving and tweaking modes, and skins, and upgrading its security features.
