Pre-Release Footage Of Civilization VI Shown!

by on June 1, 2016

Upon announcing Civilization VI, Firaxis showed a pre-release model to many people, both in order to show what the game will be like, and what they can expect both visually and gameplay wise so that they can spread the word to others.

This near 30-minute gameplay preview shows Civilization VI and many of the visual and gameplay aspects you can expect. It’s long, but it’s worth the watch.

I think we will see even more at E3 this year. Looking forward to it for sure.

This created a lot of buzz in the gaming community when it was released. I hope to see more before the game actually comes out which is highly likely to happen.

The territory lines seem a bit distracting though. It feels like puzzle pieces, instead of global maps. They should just remove it entirely, or just color the floor to the designated team's flag. That's basically my only complaint, it looks like a bunch of puzzle pieces on a board, and it doesn't add to the immersion of having civilizations.

Yeah, that is a problem a lot of strategy games have, some stuff is so useful to know, but at the same time, in order to show it you have to break the immersion of the game. I think it should be definitely more subdued, but I still think it is needed.

That was a good article, gave us a good look into what to expect in civ VI. I for one, am not a huge fan of the art style and think it looks to cartoon like. The realistic look of civ 5 was fantastic, and I am disappointing to see it go in this direction.

  • June 11, 2016 at 5:09 pm

Love the art style they're taking. Almost looks like Sims 4 in color tones and texture? The little encampments and mines and farms look beautiful. And the UI looks a bit smoother and more refined than the last games. Looks a little reminiscent of CivRev to me

It's good that the old 'Culture' aspect is being improved and becoming more relevant. I always thought that the game's designers heavily underestimated the impact of culture on human societies. Now we basically have two tech trees, one dealing with social relations in the general populace. 😎

That Teddy Roosevelt design is like: . They still have enough time to improve the animation, though.

Looks pretty awesome from this little bit of footage, I love the graphics and textures, it definitely gives the feel of "old" and "unique". Should be a fun game!

The hype is definitely real! I cannot wait for October, though it is quite a shame that I will have to be in school and not playing this game all day… XD

  • July 1, 2016 at 5:26 pm

I am a fan of the art style. I know some say it's not realistic enough but I like it. Who knows, maybe it will grow on those people. It will be a lot of fun no matter the design.

I get tired of the grim dark styles of games like Skyrim and Guild Wars. I like when the colors are bright and shiny… XD

Sometimes I like to avoid the teasers and spoilers and the clips of games, but in this case it is just one of those games that I have to look. I have been waiting too long with too much anticipation not to take a little peak. I like what I see too, which just makes it all the better. Thanks again.

I am a fan of the artstyle as well. It's a well realized style and unique from the other civilization games.

That said, the gameplay for this looks really, really good. I'm glad that Firaxis seems to have learned from their mistakes with Beyond Earth.

  • July 7, 2016 at 6:49 pm

I think it is creating quite a buzz this time round and honestly, the graphics and art style really seem much better in my opinion. It seem somewhat traditional yet with a slight realistic touch to it. I hope it will not be a let-down when I truly play the game.

  • July 7, 2016 at 7:53 pm

From the looks of how much buzzing is around the gaming world it seems like this will be bigger than any of their other previous releases. Hopefully it lives up to expectations because if it doesn't then a lot of people may be turned off to the title completely altogether.

  • July 8, 2016 at 4:17 am

Does anyone know exactly how big the game world actually is? I am a huge Civilization fan and have been looking forward to this release for quite sometime, and am just hoping that th game world itself actully expands to its full potential. This is a great franchise and am overjoyed to see it getting another release!

  • July 8, 2016 at 6:39 am

I am in love with the idea of in-depth customisation! This is what attracts me to this new Civ, along of course, with the huge amount of other improvements and changes to the base game. I have always enjoyed the freedom that any sort of game gives the player, because at the end of the day, you are the one that needs to feel in control over everything you are doing, and in order to do that you need the game to allow you to make certain decisions and change things so that the pieces fall as you wish. By Civ choosing to give you more freedom of choice (with the new tech and civic system) that alone opens up the world for you, and I feel this will make the player even more engaged with the world. Oh, and don't get me started on the graphics! Print-screen any frame and put that on your wall, it's a masterpiece! The new game engine really shows its power by making the world come alive with clear and smooth graphics. Even the way in which the fog of war is represented is so unique and enticing – it reveals and hides areas you pass through with a gorgeous map effect fading. This is how you create immersion at a deep level! All this talking about Civ made me itch to play the game even more, when was it coming out again? Tomorrow?

  • July 25, 2016 at 4:08 pm

Usually the more sequels to a game there are, the more they improve and I'm really seeing that a lot. It seems like there's going to be a lot of content and along with the new features that they're going to add and also bring back, I think this will be a great release. I guess we'll just have to wait and see for now.

Holy christ! It definitely looks extremely amazing!!! It's surely going to be one hell of a game, looking forward to it, the only thing is that I will probably have to upgrade my PC but come on, that will be a must to be able to play the game, come on, it's beautiful, it will be worth it!

You could always try playing it at a lower spec if your PC can't handle it, since it's not a really demanding game at all. What other games can your PC run?

I am not a big fan of playing games on low specs whatsoever, I have always liked to get the best out of everything so this might not be an exception to my list.

I can actually run some good games such as GTA V, Dota 2 and some other games in high specs, like it is supposed to be 😀

  • July 26, 2016 at 3:43 pm

Definitely looks interesting, but I'm not sure how big a fan I am of "cartoony" art style. I know some people prefer games to look like that, but I honestly just can't seem to enjoy it. I'm used to playing gritty versions of Civs that mimic old-style battle and civilizations. This game looks a little bit more modern, but I suppose it trades off looking serious for that.

Me too. I'm not a graphics snob by any means but playing games on lowest settings kind of put me off still because I feel I am experiencing the game in way less quality than I should be. Though I guess if there were absolutely no choice I'd also be glad that the option is there for me to use.

I honestly think that graphics aren't that big of a factor, especially in top down games, such as Civ. I don't know if it's just because I've gotten used to it or what, but I think of a lot of games look just fine on the lowest settings. These days, most games are made to still look good on the lowest settings, so that the companies that make them can appeal to the most people possible. The downgrade from the max settings to lower ones is definitely noticeable on big games such as GTA, but honestly, graphics are a really small part of the Civ series for me. I know that some of my friends forego graphics completely and play Civ 5 in strategic mode.

And I agree with what the other user said, I always try to max out my settings until it starts to have an effect on my FPS. At that point, I'll turn down some of the less necessary features of the game, like the shadows or water quality.

That's exactly what I mean, it's like when you put your glasses on and then you take them off, everything looks way different and once you get used to wearing your glasses and have a good vision of the world you do not want to go back to the bad view, that's exactly what happens to me when talking about games.

I know what you mean. In the same vein I think if I got used to the lowest settings enough there will come a time when I won't mind it anymore. But nowadays I think I've just gotten way too spoiled by good graphics on other games that it would take a lot for me to start getting used to lower graphic settings again.

I suppose in a game like this graphics isn't that important since you only need to see the elements and be able to identify them enough to know your next move. It's not like other games where you have to move around and see each detail to be able to react quickly.

  • July 28, 2016 at 5:13 am

The whole thing looks amazing. It's super exciting and I would really like to see more. I can see what Óursisthefury' means about the territory being a bit distracting, but I'm hoping it will grow on me.

Well, I know manycases as yours, by the way, have you ever thought about upgrading your PC?
I know it might be a little bit expensive but there are many low poly setups for Gaming PCs, you should try one.

  • July 28, 2016 at 9:29 am

I'm always excited for new info like this but I do wonder if this is going to be what the final version looks like. I haven't heard a lot of details yet and maybe we will get more info soon. Civ 5 is one of my favorite games so I really don't want to get to hyped up for this game and have it be a letdown. From what I see so far though, it's promising.

Unfortunately I mostly just play on laptops so I am tied down to what specs I get on each brand since I do need the portability because I use it for work as well. I do plan on getting a PC soon but it's a bit more difficult sourcing parts here especially for a beginner like me.

Well, I really see your point here, that's the main reason why I definitely do not like laptops at all, they're really limited, I personally think they were not made for gaming even when there are many gaming laptops, however, it's nothing way too complicated to build your own PC, I really consider it way better than buying a pre-build one, they tend to be more expensive and all that stuff, you shall look up on the internet for tutorials and builds, good luck.

Yeah, that's one of the big reasons laptops suck for gaming. Even the ones that are advertised as gaming laptops eventually fall flat, and there's no way to upgrade them, unlike desktop PCs, which can be upgraded any time your wallet can allow it. I actually started off with a pre built PC, but I upgraded it to an absolute beast a few years later. It was really easy considering the cable management was extremely well done, but that might have just been because I paid extra for that. I definitely would have had some terrible cable management a few years ago, so I'm pretty grateful the company I bought my PC from could help me out in that regard. Overall, PCs are much more stable than gaming laptops, IMO.

Yeah it really is unfortunate but I've just gotten too used to the portability and accessibility laptops as I can bring it around and even connect it to any random tv I just happen to travel to which is very convenient for me. I do plan on getting a desktop soon though but I doubt I'd spend that much on it.

These are like the teasers. I am sure the game is amazing.

They are releasing more and more news about it, which is making me as well as my friends who play the game quite impatient. Hopefully the date Oct 21 comes soon enough so that I can get my hands on the game.

Also, from the videos so far, some quite interesting features have come to light like the modular cities with distinct ares in them. let's see what more they pull out of the hat in this version.

Well, there are many options on the internet, all you gotta do is take your time to find a good deal that would be fine for your pocket and your availability as well. I actually consider laptops as something useless these days, smartphones have taken over laptops when talking about portability and functions, people prefer carrying a small smartphone instead of carrying the big bag.

I definitely agree with what you said about smartphones replacing laptops. I think laptops were a lot more desirable a few years ago when smartphones weren't as popular, but now, close to everyone has access to one. That's not to say that laptops are obsolete, though. I see where DeeDee is coming from, since laptops are still hugely effective if you're travelling a lot. I specifically bring my laptop with me wherever I go so I can connect it to a TV via HDMI and watch show on the TV, rather than on the cramped laptop screen. I think laptops are also great if you're travelling for business reasons, since it's pretty unrealistic to do any job-related work on a smartphone. As useful as they are, laptops still outshines smartphones in certain areas.

You absolutely have a point there, however, I still consider laptops useful for traveling if you somehow work with web development, graphic designing or probably programming and coding, because you really need a PC for all those duties, so yes, it's still useful but not as much as it used to be in the past.

As much as I just want to switch to tablets I don't think any of them are still powerful enough for the software I need to put in. Also I don't think touch screens would work well for me so I think I'd still need a desktop or CPU. Tablets are more just for casual use for now still.
