Pokken Tournament Is Outselling Street Fighter V On Consoles!

by on May 16, 2016

In the last few months, not one, but two hardcore fighting games came out. The first being the long-awaited Street Fighter V on PS4 and PC. Then a month or so later came Pokken Tournament, the Pokemon fighting game made by the team behind the Tekken franchise. While no one expected either to do badly, an interesting fact has surfaced.

Pokken Tournament is outselling Street Fighter on consoles.

As noted by numerous sites, including HardcoreGamer.com, Pokken Tournament on Wii U has sold 680,000 copies solely on Wii U, as it is in an exclusive to the console. On PS4, the console to have Street Fighter this generations, SFV has sold 670,000 copies.

What is significant here isn’t just that Pokken Tournament is winning, but rather that it reached its number in a shorter time frame. To be fair though, if the PC sales of SFV are added, the game would be at 690,000. Which is not much of a lead over Pokken.

Wow that's pretty impressive. I have heard that SFV is not being received that well due to it being released seemingly incompletely but maybe it's just having a slow start as I'm sure the fans will pick it up sooner or later. Still, beating such a popular title is no small feat so they must be doing something right.
