Warcraft will be a big budget film based on the hit Warcraft video game franchise, and it hits theaters next month. One of the film’s main stars is actor Travis Fimmel, who portrays Lothar. According to a recent interview with the Red Bulletin, Fimmel actually had no knowledge of the games at all before he got the job to play Lothar in the film. In fact, he never played the games or even heard of them at all.
Speaking on taking the role, Fimmel stated, “I needed a job.” It also seems Fimmel was not so keen on the visual effects and green screen work he did on the film. He added, “To be honest, I had no idea what I was getting myself into. It is such a different way of acting, not talking to someone sometimes. You’re actually talking to air. It’s hard. I bloody suck at it.”
So while this might not be an answer that endears Fimmel to the gaming community, at least he’s being honest.
The Warcraft movie finally opens in theaters on June 10. It’s not the only major film based on a video game to hit theaters this year. The live-action Assassin’s Creed movie hits theaters in December. The CG animated Angry Birds movie also hits theaters later this month.
