Hacker Softbans People From Dark Souls 3!

by on May 3, 2016

Modding and hacking go hand in hand in the world of gaming. It is the ability to change what the game was made to do, or made for, that often creates some very interesting things.

However, as Kotaku reports, there is a dark side. As one gamer apparently spent an entire weekend going through Dark Souls 3, softbanning people, and the killing them with modded weapons in a special server. Softbanning is the process of taking gamers who cheat on other players, and dumping them into a server full of “cheating” gamers. This is meant to clean up the unfairness modders and hackers bring to the table. But this gamer apparently found a way to use that to his advantage.

Worse off still, once players escaped the server he was on, their characters appeared to be suffering from stats being messed up.

Bandai Namco says that in cases like this players should go to a “previous save data file”, but that’s not an option for some. In any case, gamers should have multiple save files in case something like this happens.
