Amazon Games Opens First Studio in Europe
Amazon Games announced that it has opened its first European development studio in Bucharest, Romania. The studio will now have studios in Orange County, California, Montreal, San Diego, and Seattle, as well as the Romanian facility.
Amazon Games’ new gaming studio will support Amazon’s library of titles, including New World and Lost Ark. The local office will also accommodate future titles like Lord of the Rings MMORPG, Tomb Raider, and Throne and Liberty.
In addition to the new studio announcement, Amazon Games mentioned unannounced projects in construction from their San Diego and Montreal studios, as well as Glowmade, an independent studio in the UK.
Since the Glowmade deal was originally announced, there has not been forthcoming news. That is until now. Plus, with the industry so tumultuous these past few years, it’s good to at least hear about those projects still to be announced.
With 20 years of experience on his resume, Cristian Pana will be heading up Amazon Games’ first European studio. While talking about his vision for the studio, Pana cites games such as Tom Clancy’s The Division, The Crew, Far Cry, and Avatar as examples.
In addition, Amazon Games Bucharest is hiring staff for the new studio. Pana lays out the personnel type that he is looking for as they build out the team.
“I look for people who are self-driven, motivated, ambitious, and not easily satisfied with the status quo. This makes for very dynamic team mechanics and an ability to adapt to different opportunities quickly”
