Do you even need a guild in World of Warcraft now?

When I first started playing World of Warcraft, it was important to be in a guild. Well, more accurately, to be in a good guild. Now, I wonder if it even matters. It seems like the newer generation is more about solo play, and there are automated systems for dungeons, raids, battlegrounds, and even arenas. So, what do you need a guild for?

Which do you prefer, the group/team play aspect or the solo player mode that seems to be more and more common in the latest iterations of World of Warcraft?

I still prefer having the guild, but maybe that is me just being old school and liking it the way I was used to. I can see the things changing though, but I guess it is just to each their own.

Well you don't really need it but having one makes the game much better.

In what ways? What do you really need a guild for now, unless you play WoW competitively?

I can see it if you're guild is a group of friends, but otherwise, I don't really feel the need any longer. I joined a couple different guilds on various servers when I was looking for a new realm. No one even did stuff together or even talked much for that matter. Everyone was just off doing their own thing.

I think it's kind of sad. WoW used to be all about making friends.

No, I've never felt the need for it (at least not until that time). But if I need to, I do not see any problem.

I meant it in terms of overall enjoyment. I 'm fully aware it's not needed.

I don't think you really need a guild, you can go about any way but most people seem to be attracted to them.

I was just giving my perspective. I was asking a serious question. In what way does being in a guild help your overall enjoyment now days? I guess it really depends on the guild. I've been in some good ones and some real duds.

Guilds are great for friendship and help with the game at some points. Guilds are of different types so you may need a guild for different reasons. It's also ok if you don't want to be in a guild.

Guilds are the best thing and this will get you done with a lot of tasks in the game. It is not necessary to have a guilt but it is good to have one.

Yeah just because it is not really needed or necessary does not mean it is not a good idea to have one. I would still feel a little lost there but I suppose it presents a new challenge.

It is true that in the past you had to be in a good guild to really get the most out of WoW. Nowadays solo has become a really huge thing and the devs are doing everything they can to make sure we get the best experience.

The solo thing has really taken away some of the joys of the original strong points of WOW. Random raid parties used to be a hit in the past and it lead to some interesting boss battle scenarios. I myself love to be the tank so I can be at the heart of all the action. I remember my whole team except me and the healer being wiped out and we took out that boss although the healer did die towards the end, I somehow finished off that raid boss - good times!

I agree with this.

Guild is like a society basically. Honestly, if you want to communicate with people you need a guild. Personally I don't need one, because I like solo rogue raiding.

I'm all up for a casual guild. Not one that takes itself too seriously and usually it's a group of outlaws like myself lol. Most times I do solo-raid as well.
