Hopefully not in my lifetime. Myself as well as millions of others would lose our social lives LOL!

^I can see myself as one of those who will suffer anti-socialism. (>_<) Though you actually get to somehow communicate with other people when playing MMO games, so you are not completely secluded as opposed to single player games. :p

What are you saying? Occulus and Omni have collaborated with Valve.

With Occulus rift getting support from Valve, its as soon as the consumer version is available.

I don't want to be an analytical buttface, but all MMO games are virtual realities. ^_~ However, if you are talking about introducing technology that allows people to fully integrate themselves into the MMO environment, like actually feel like you're walking and interacting in it, as if you yourself is in it, then that's a bit more complicated. They are developing similar technologies right now, which beams visuals right into your eyes, but to be smooth in movement and other controls may become a stress factor for your brain and ultimately your body.

I'd say to make it fully work, probably in the next 5 or so years.

I'd say that in 5 years we will start seeing the earliest versions. Going to take a lot longer to get it working in a proper way but eventually it will happen.

Like someone had already pointed out, MMO games are already virtual realities.
If OP means somehow these virtual realities are interfaced with our human "sensors" (ex: eyes, ears, or even brains) directly rather than showing on a computer screen, then such technology won't be here for a while. However, it also depends on your definition of it. If you mean somehow we can really "walk" in a video game and feel it is "real", that won't be here for many decades or even centuries. But I believe a cheap down version is quite possible right now with players wearing some kind of helment with 3d screens and surrounding sound system.

I see someone has said the graphics right now is not realistic enough. Have you seen the latest FPS games? The best graphics are always in FPS. The technology is there. It might not be as realistic as the real world, but realistic enough to be a darn good video game. Besides, if the game looks totally the same as the real world, it will only be good for something like sims or second life type of games... When I want to play a MMORPG with elves, orces, dwarves, etc. in it, I don't want everything looks just like what we see in this world lol.

The Oculus Rift is a huge step into the Virtual Reality direction. There are some crazy things that you can do with the Rift. YouTube is currently flooded with guys showing off their custom modifications that they did, and how they play their games using the Oculus. It`s only a matter of time before someone takes it one step further and enhances it.

MMO will probably one of the later additions to virtual reality, likely do the fact that it has to run with so many people playing at once.

I think we're definitely going to have to wait for VR technology to become more widespread and mainstream before it becomes a viable option for developers. I'm definitely excited for it to happen though.

I'm guessing 10 years from now for it to be commercially viable. At that point I'll prolly waste my life in games.

Not for private use. With immersive technology, you need to be monitored by professionals ... not that they would need a doctoral degree just to monitor your vitals, and to pull you out every-so-often for eye-exercises etc. (to your eyes, the entire v-world would be an inch from your face while your brain is 'comprehending' it as varying from an inch to a mile ... would blow away your depth-perception (or something) IRL).

Private VR could mess up your bathroom breaks ... particularly if they allowed live-action VR (rather than the lower-resolution-than-real-life computer-graphics).

I don't think there would be enough players for a VR MMORPG to work for a very long time. Remember, the equipment is extremely expensive.

I think it will happen in the near future. We have to develop the technology a little bit more and then we will see a lot of virtual reality games, mmorpgs included.

This is nowhere near specs. I give it 15-30 years (probably 20-25) before we see a fully indepth Sword Art Online clone where you literally freeze your body in place and act with your mind. The neural networking needed to do such a thing is technology we possess only on a small level (like crippled people moving objects with their mind through those electrodes and robotics) so this is still a very basic industry. It's budding.

I won't probably see it achieved in my lifetime but if I do I'll probably end up "Full Diving" a lot.

Virtual reality... I'd love to try it. Unfortunately, I get easily motion sick and would probably throw-up 2 minutes into trying a VR MMORPG. :(

Heh, yeah, funny parody of people in VRMMOS throwing up everywhere.

Seriously though, I'd love this more than anything in my life but I don't see it coming to fruition. Not yet.
