    French is an awesome language though. Like Italian, it's extremely smooth and musical.

    Olen aina miettinyt, miltä suomi kuulostaa sitä puhumattomien mielestä.

    Rough translation:

    I've always thought what Finnish sounds like to those who can't undertand it.

    Finnish sounds very strange to me. It's not very Germanic, sounds a little like Russian, Polish... but yep, it's in a league of it's own. Quite cool language, though, I've seen a few Finnish movies.

    Well, I'm Belgian and my mother used to teach English & Dutch in a French-speaking school so I had a multilingual upbringing. I've always wanted to study German, Norwegian & Swedish but I left school to pursue my artistic interests and never got around to it. I also understand a little bit of Italian and Spanish. I am however studying Japanese at the moment but that is one hell of a difficult and confusing language.

    * Dutch:
    - "Dit overtrof moeiteloos mijn lage verwachtingen"
    ("This effortlessly exceeded my low expectations.")

    * French:
    - "Un bon pétard dans le cul pour que la merde nous saute à la gueule!"
    ("A nice firecracker in the arse, lest crap exits through the mouth")

    This sentence was taken from the movie "Un Long Dimanche de Fiançailles" by Jean-Pierre Jeunet.

    I think Finnish sounds very, very weird. Although I love the Finnish cartoon "Moomin" :3 Can play a lot of Snufkin's song on harmonica myself :D Finnish sounds like a very weird mixture of Russian and Swedish. It has the typical Russian sound, with many consonants compared to how many vocals there are, and like the typical Swedish tone in the voice.

    Well, I understood 'moeiteloos', 'lage' and 'mijn', 'dit' (wow, real skill there!) Haha! I can usually read Dutch and get the general gist of it (we've got all the TinTin books in Dutch), but it takes ages! :D

    Man, I love the Moomins as well! And Tintin, too! There's a tie between the Moomins and the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles for my childhood favourite show (I still watch Moomins occasionally. :eek: Snufkin - or Nuuskamuikkunen/Snusmumriken - FTW!).

    I totally get the Swedish/Russian references, we've some words that are almost directly taken from each. That and our official grammar has evolved around Swedish, Russian and German grammar rules. Although, AFAIK our language is among the most difficult to learn languages.

    I know a very little Swedish and that way I can understand some Norwegian and Danish as well (actually, TBH, I really don't understand Danish at all, though I think I should be able to :D). I know some Russian, too. I'd love to learn French and more Russian.

    Finnish does sound complex but also sounds good I think. I've also grown towards Swedish ever since I visited but German has got to be my favorite. Russian being my second. I'm even trying to learn a little Russian at work (because EVERYONE I work with is a Russian and doesn't speak good English)

    W metrze, wszyscy jesteśmy braćmi i siostrami - ludźmi, walczącymi o przetrwanie w nowym świecie. Żyjemy w nadziei, że pewnego dnia zobaczymy blask słońca.

    In the metro, we are all brothers and sisters - people, fighting for survival in a new world. We live in hope that one day we will get to see the shining sun.
