From what I can tell SEGA might still buy the remaining franchise rights, but it would sadly be logical if they just stuck to the CoH-franchise alone :eek:hwell:
    EDIT: For future updates
Guess it'll be a late night for me... :)

GSC doesn't really exist anymore. Well, they do - sort of - but they're basically an empty studio with no money and pretty much none of the original team (they're all at Vostok Games now or moved on entirely). Even before that happened, GSC would have never bought Metro because they never had a lot of money and they were a developer, not a publisher.

If this is accurate, MLL goes to Koch Media:

    Metro Last Light is safe.

The CEO has stated that most employees will be offered positions with the new companies, but obviously some people won't be picked up. I hope to God Joe keeps his job.

    And Metro goes to...

The rights to Metro have been acquired by Koch Media which is the parent company of Deep Silver which made Dead Island. What worries me is this quote, "According to a statement issued by Koch, "Deep Silver, Koch Media’s international publishing powerhouse, will lead all further development and marketing on the Saints Row and Metro franchises." You can read the story over on ign srry can't post URL not enough posts.

This seems to be reasonably good news, then. So to be clear, Koch GmbH is the publisher only, and has no other role in the development of MLL, right?

Is there any sense of what kind of release schedule we might be looking at here, given that the game has to be virtually complete at this point?

Yes they are only a publisher and they do have a role in the development. They tell the developer what to do but since the game is almost done they most likely won't do anything to the team other than say hello and tell them to make sure to release it. And yea the scheduled release date is still in effect.

Koch only buys the Metro rights, not 4A games. For 4A nothing changes, only now Koch pay their wages instead of THQ.

Not necessarily. Whatever contracts 4A signed concerning the release of Metro: Last Light probably died along with THQ. A publisher that holds the rights to the Metro franchise could - at any point in time - assign a completely new developer to the game. Fortunately, since 4A Games have made the engine that the Metro games run on - they most likely also hold the rights to that engine. If Koch Media decided to fire the devs at 4A, then the game we have seen so far would never be released and something completely new would have to be built from scratch but under the same name of "Metro: Last Light".

No one in their right mind would destroy years of development and preparation for the game's release by firing its current creators. It just wouldn't make sense, especially from a business point of view. By buying the Metro franchise now, Koch Media can essentially make loads of money out of years of marketing work carried out by the previous publisher, assuming they keep the same developer and other assets associated with the game's development and strive towards the same or similar release date.
