It's really not all that difficult, just use lots of cover and it's all good. I will play Last Light on this mode for sure, it's much more intense. The best part was the gas-filters. "Okay, I have four filters, they'll last me about one minute, and this journey (Outpost mission) will take at least four minutes... I'm going to need more filters. And there's only one way to do that!" I run at the enemy (who actually hesitates for a fatal second), blast him away, grab his filters and install them. Very tense!
Agreed, this is the real metro. Although I shouldn't have attempted my current playthrough with only the stock revolver. I'm stuck at dry station atm.
Hmm, well here's how I always do that mission. Hop down the right vent, and go behind the large wooden structure to the right (with the hallsing ammo). Here you are in the shadows, and can pick off quite a few of the enemies before they are even aware. But careful, people have a tendency to throw grenades there, so work quickly. Then carefully, and slowly, go through the arch to your right (away from the vent you came from), and pick off all the guys there. Then backtrack, flank, and waste all the other guys in the level. Try to reach checkpoints, too, since then, if you die, you start there! Hope it helps.
Yeah, the problem is that I traded all my ammo and good guns for revolver ammo. I was on a John Wayne playthrough : )
Oh yeah, the surface parts are quite a pain in the ass on ranger hardcore. Always tried to do everything as fast as possible because you run out of filters in no time.
You can still do it, or even start again. Yeah, always buy them whenever you can. Sometimes they all disappear, though, at least with my game. Guess it's a small glitch. But it's still awesome!
It turns out that if you "John Wayne" it on RNGR/HC, you have enough mrg to score over 2000 5.45 rounds by armoury station.
I finally played through this up to the library in R/HC mode and i guess i'd have to say i won't be using it again. I like the combat differences, but the reduction in gas mask life ruins it for me since i like looking at the scenery. Despite buying a ton of gas masks at Market Station, i think i used them up taking my time in the first surface level, then ran out at the entrance to the library. Super short gas masks don't really make sence within the story either, since it would limit peoples ability to go outside and set up long term camps. Also i would think eventually the atmosphere would quickly become free of the vast majority of radiation.
Very true. A gas mask filter would actually last quite long in reality... But I guess the intense feel is what they were going for.
In real life, gas mask filters are rated to be idle for approx 4 years, after which it is extremely unsafe to use. They were going for an intense feel, just what streffo said.
for playng the game in ranger hardcore, you must end the game in hardcore first??? i'm playng the game in hardcore now, but i think im making something wrong, when i end the game, do i have to put load, instead of new game??? i think that's my mistake
