Wow. I had this long, involved, full, rich, and (for me) fun backstory for my main character that involved the Anauroch desert. I was doing a bunch of research for a campaign I wanted to build in the Foundry based on this character only to find out that according to lore, this game year represents the end of the Anauroch? I have been trying to read up on it, but not sure where to find information as to what the Anauroch was like for the "past few years", and exactly what it is today. What happened to the Bedine? To the Zhentarim and their oasis trade route? There seems to be a lack of good, solid, huge, epic deserts in the Forgotten Realms, and the Anauroch was just close enough to Neverwinter... I'm a little lost at the moment, wondering if people can link some articles about the recent and current Anauroch and suggest perhaps other deserts
They changed a lot of things since the release of the 4th Edition rules in D&D. The basic idea is that the Empire of Netheril (now The City of Shade) returned from the Plane of Shadows and "terraformed" the Anauroch Desert, because that was the location of the original Netherese Empire. You could use the Calim Desert to the south, for example.
