Well, I guess it's not that close to release.

I still enjoy watching the teaser trailer more than anything else for Black Ops 3.

Is that bad? The game looks fun, but that teaser trailer was done so well.

Unfortunately, Black Ops 3 has some stiff competition in games like Fallout 4 and Battlefront this holiday season.

I'm positive that both of those games will outsell Black Ops 3 because there's much more buzz surrounding them, and they're part of beloved franchises that nobody sees as on the decline.

Then again, that seems like a given at this point.

The teaser looks promising but I guess that it would be always the same exact game just with a couple of addition from the preivous one... nothing really to hype about.

True. Because, as much as they could change the stories each game, the core mechanics can't be changed a whole lot, even adding in jetpacks and boosters and whatnot.

Throwing in too many vehicle-like features might not make gamers happy, either. CoD will never be like Battlefield, but some people like not having to deal with vehicles in CoD games, aside from a few killstreaks.

Still, it's tough to make a first-person shooter franchise and then have it stand out because SO MANY FPS games rely upon the same mechanics and general UI. I think 3rd person shooters have an easier time differentiating from each other, to be honest.

It depends. Even GTA V had to implement a FPS option to their game simply because it's so popular. Call of Duty definitely have the fame of the franchise, so I don't think it'd be that hard for them to hype the game.

Yeah, the gameplay videos look solid for the most part. I can deal with sensitivity issues because those can be fixed with a patch early on.

But CoD is already dealing with the effect of its games not being as popular as they once were. It's even tougher today because so many FPS games come out. Even a different HUD, design style, and character abilities doesn't set these games apart any longer. I think CoD is still king because the experience from game to game is so similar and smooth, a level of smoothness that a lot of games cannot match.

I feel like other shooter series are on the up while CoD is remaining stagnant. Battlefield is in the stagnant category, too. Rainbow Six is looking to make an impact with Siege, and then Ghost Recon will have Wildlands coming out, not to mention a bunch of other first- and third-person shooters.

I'd even venture to say that Battlefield is slipping more than CoD because BF4 was such a disappointment compared to BF3, due to all those bugs, and then Hardline wasn't as good as everyone wanted it to be.

If there's any franchise that can burn through good will and still sell millions of copies, though, Call of Duty is that franchise for better or worse. It's still going to make tons of money.

The issues with the CoD franchise right now are easy to pinpoint, yet nobody has an explanation for why the series remains such a high seller. :3
