For those that aren't aware, it's possible to claim certain areas of the in-game universe in EVE for your player alliance. Claiming "sov", which is short for sovereignty, has often carried with it various economic bonuses for players; along with the associated bragging rights. The system for capturing and defending systems has gone through several iterations, the most recent of which being colloquially known as "Fozziesov", having been deployed as part of the recent Aegis patch.

The previous Dominion sov system to Aegis, deployed during the patch of it's namesake was a much different system. It involved the process of "structure bashing". Wherein large fleets of players would have to manually attack a series of structures and grind through millions of Hit Points, before claiming the target system. Needless to say, it was a laborious nightmare.

Aegis sov replaced the structure grind with a decentralized mechanic meant to force small gangs of players to attack and capture several nodes in a constellation to claim a target system. CCP held a round table to discuss these changes among others with the playerbase. As the EVE playerbase is fickle and at times combative, this went a bit poorly. With the result being an awful lot of misguided drama on Reddit and social media in response to CCP having to dodge certain questions that they refused to answer. Mostly because the answer would involve likely spoiling future developments for the game.

What do you think of the new mechanics and the associated response by the community?
