Thеy аrе dеfinitеly nоt а соnnесtеd sеriеs stоrylinе-wisе. Thеrе аrе а fеw еxсеptiоns tо this (еx. dо nоt plаy FFX-2 bеfоrе FFX, аs FFX-2 асtuаlly is а dirесt sеquеl sеt а fеw yеаrs аftеr thе соnсlusiоn оf FFX), but nоnе оf thе mаin numbеrеd gаmеs аrе linkеd tо аny оf thе оthеr оnеs.

I wоuld оnly аdd thаt, thоugh thеy аrе in lаrgе pаrt аmаzing gаmеs аll аrоund, sinсе nеw vеrsiоns hаvе bееn rеlеаsеd оf thе оld оnеs (prе-FFVII), yоu shоuld prоbаbly skip thеm. Thеir gооd pоints, thеir stоrylinе аnd thеir innоvаtiоn, аrе а bit "bееn-thеrе-dоnе-thаt" in thе соntеxt оf thе dоzеns, mаybе hundrеds, оf RPGs thаt hаvе sinсе usеd thеir stylе. It wаs а slightly diffеrеnt stоry whеn thеy соuld bе еmulаtеd аt vеry littlе risk, but nоw thаt thе соpyrights/соmpаny intеrеst hаs bееn rеfrеshеd with thе rе-rеlеаsеs, it's а bit mоrе dоdgy.

I recommend that each new player begins to play / to live the Final Fatnasy saga from the beginning to be able to follow the evolution of the game and the characters through each new version.

The game becomes more fun and exciting with each new discovery.

This is probably a to each their own type scenario, and it likely depends a lot on your attention span. I am not sure I could make it all the way from the start.

I know what you mean, I think that I would probably get bored with the earlier versions if I were to start from the beginning of the series. I think it's alright to start with the current one, and if you really get into the game then you could eventually find the other previous Final Fantasy games just for fun.

Yes the stories are linked, but not so much that you would be totally confused if you were to start at a more recent game in the series. It would be nice to be able to follow the story from the beginning and see each phase of development for the Final Fantasy games, but in my opinion, it's not really necessary.

The only ones that you should probably do in order would be FFX and FFX-2 because those have the same character. Other than that all of the games have different characters except for Cid. Some variation of Cid has been in ever FF game I've played but I have not played all of them. I think all of the games also have an airship and chocobo, but I could be mistaken. FFXI and FFXIV are both online MMORPGs. FFXI is love, it's my favorite.

Final Fantasy is a versatile game and I think you will enjoy it no matter where you begin. I'm currently playing FFXIV and I'm loving every moment of it. I don't know if the others here would agree but if you asked me I would say start there...

Any version of Final Fantasy is great to play because it's a very wide franchise, but I think when games are played in chronological order they get even better. :)

I would advice anyone to start playing right from the first game in the series. This will allow one to follow the story easily and therefore advance with time.

I always like trying to trace through the whole game so I would always suggest starting from the beginning. You will have to designate a good amount of time for this one though.

I think it depends on the game. I have found out that FF 7 onwards the games have changed a lot. In past earlier versions were not upto the mark. And for that reason I played from FF7 and other remakes.

Oooh! You don't know what you are missing, I would start from the beginning if I were you.

Most of the Final Fantasy games aren't really connected at all so it is a matter of personal preference on which series to start with. I have played most of the Final Fantasy games since the Super Nintendo console was around in the 90's and I have really enjoyed the general storytelling of most of them. The exception of course which is Final Fantasy 9 - the storytelling was horrible, graphics were horrible and it is the "black sheep" of the Final Fantasy franchise.

I agree to this one. It's more fun to know the journey of the final fantasy series game.
