I remember there was a game called Spellforce, based on the books written by some German author, or perhaps she wrote books based on the game, it doesn't matter. I then remember there was Spellforce II, while slightly dumbed down had two neat xpacs. Question is if there are any similar newer games on market? I kinda miss the RPG/RTS mix games, Spellforce was very niched game but quite popular.
