Dontnod Entertainment, the developers behind Remember Me and Life Is Strange, and Focus Home Interactive have officially released the first screenshots for the upcoming action-RPG Vampyr. You can check out the new images in the gallery below (click on the thumbnails to see the full-size images).

Vampyr is set in London, England in 1918 and focuses on immersive action role-playing that is steeped in vampire mythology and narrative. The game is set in London after the Spanish flu has laid waste to London’s population. Each character has a unique backstory that will affect the world. Focus claims that whoever is hunted by players, if they die, they will be gone forever from the world, and their death will impact the world in a meaningful way.

Players take the role of a Doctor and a Vampyr who used to be human. Players will choose to heal potential prey, craft medicines and also feed on human blood to keep you “alive” and unlock new vampiric powers. The Doctor is a man of science who has become a best of the night. The tormented Vampyr must now learn the rules of his new conditions and find some answers.

The combat for Vampyr will be dynamic, melee-focused, real-time combat. It will mix melee combat along with the player’s supernatural vampiric powers. Players can find and loot materials and components from the fresh corpses of victims or during exploration. The crafting system allows players to craft and improve tools, melee and ranged weapons and special ammunitions to exploit the weaknesses of enemies.

The game looks really dark, moody, bleak and atmospheric. The premise where players take the role of a doctor-turned-vampire is very interesting. Dontnod did some good work with Life Is Strange, so it will be intriguing to see how the company follows that up and if Vampyr can live up to its ambitions.

Vampyr is due out in 2017. The game is being developed for PlayStation 4, Xbox One and Windows PC.
