by on June 22, 2016

According to a report by Polygon, there was a player who was accused of cheating on Overwatch, who has since been cleared of those accusations. The player in question is Gegury, who is a top player in Korea and was competing in the Nexus Cup. The 17-year-old female plays as Zarya, and she has a win rate of 80 percent in 420 games played.

Gegury reportedly streamed herself playing the game live, even after Blizzard Korea cleared her of the accusations. Two other male players accused Gegury of cheating and hacking her way into her spot. After her team beat some other major teams in Korea in the Nexus Cup qualifier is when others started accusing Gegury of cheating. After Gegury’s team won the qualifiers for the Nexus Cup, the opposing team apparently required Artisan to report Gegury to Blizzard Korea. Blizzard Korea then later cleared Gegury of any hacking charges.

In addition, the two professional gamers who said they’d quit playing if it turned out Gegury wasn’t cheating have opted to keep their word. Also, they are now staying away from the Overwatch scene entirely now.

Gegury later commented on the situation on her Twitter account, not expecting the amount of attention this situation brought for her. She also said she will start streaming more after she officially joins her team.

I was in awe when I saw her play. She really is amazing, a really good player. I don't really get why they accused her for cheating, she is literally amazing. Is it because she is a girl? Gender doesn't matter when you are playing games (imo).

The way some players play it really does feel like they are cheating so it's even more impressive when you realize they're not. Some people just have that type of skill where it looks so natural to them to do certain things in video games that an average player probably will never accomplish.

It's probably not because she's a girl.. those things happened back in Counter Strike 1.6 as well. People were so good that you would think they were cheating, in hindsight they were just amazing at the game and had good map awareness.
