How much care does the team behind The Legend of Zelda put into its timeline? Where do they say Breath of the Wild falls into it?
One of things that makes The Legend Of Zelda franchise unique is that the games all take place within one universe. The catch though, is that though it’s the “same” main character, they’re always descendants of a previous timeline. And some stories are the result of certain timelines failing to stop Ganon, while others just continue the storyline. It’s a bit confusing.
So, with Breath of the Wild out for over 10 months, fans can’t help but wonder where the game fits in the Legend of Zelda timeline. Especially since the game has a line that references the past games. Well, director Hideomaro Fujibayashi said this to Games Radar:
“I wouldn’t say that we’re not concerned with the timeline. It’s obviously something that we know is very important to people, and they do a lot of research on. But I think at this point, we’re not really at the stage where we want to talk about where Breath of the Wild is in the timeline. I think, as with the pixelated food, it’s something that at this point we want to leave up to people’s imaginations.”
So there you go, you can interpret its placement wherever you want.
