According to a report by Polygon, Final Fantasy XIV could be coming to the Xbox One on the near future. Square Enix is currently in final negotiations to make the Xbox One port of the game a reality. The game originally launched for the PlayStation 3 in 2013 and later the PlayStation 4 in April 2014. In the past, the game was never ported to the Xbox One because of issues with the infrastructure of the Xbox One not allowing for cross-platform gameplay.
However, Microsoft is now focusing on players to enjoy games on both Xbox One and Windows, and multiplayer serves across those games for any other willing platforms. This changed matters for Square Enix and game director Naoki Yoshida stated: “Microsoft actually approached the Final Fantasy 14 team about the cross-platform opportunity. When our team reviewed the regulations that are associated with that, we realized that Microsoft may not have the experience or understanding of running an MMORPG as an online game genre just yet. The Final Fantasy 14 team has fed back to Microsoft that there are certain elements of its regulations that we would have to consider waived. We’re waiting on Microsoft’s response for that, but we are having discussions.”
Yoshida added that Square Enix will continue to be supported on the PlayStation 3. He said, “At this point, we’ve already declared that we’ll continue to fully support the PS3 through the 3.x series of patches. That’s about all we can say at this point. If anything changes with that, we’ll be sure to update our players so that they are aware.”
So it seems while it’s not confirmed, there are discussions about a Final Fantasy XIV port to the Xbox One.
