Final Fantasy XV Game Engine Was Tested On Switch!

by on September 5, 2017

Which version of Final Fantasy XV is coming to the Nintendo Switch? Or is any version coming to the platform?

Ever since Gamescom 2017, a singular rumor/tease has been spreading through the internet like wildfire, “Final Fantasy XV is coming to the Nintendo Switch.” At first, it was thought that the main game was coming, then it was “stated” that it was the Pocket Version that’s coming to mobile phones. These conflicting statements left everyone confused, and in some cases mad.

To clear up the rumors, director Hajime Tabata talked to Dualshockers about what the team did for the Nintendo Switch. They took the Final Fantasy XV engine, the Luminous Engine, and tested it out on the platform. The results weren’t what they wanted though, so they stopped.

However, it’s important to note that Tabata stated that they did this on a basic level. They literally ran the engine straight up, they didn’t try and tweak it, or do modifications to make it flow better like they did for the PC version of the game. And Tabata also stated they’re looking into making it work.

So for now, it’s probably safe to assume that Final Fantasy XV could still come to the Switch. But as for which version? That’s stil very much up in the air at the moment.
