Battleborn Internet Requirements Have Been Revealed! Find Out Why You Need a Constant Connection to Play!

by on March 23, 2016

In case players were wondering at all, playing the upcoming, highly anticipated Battleborn is going to require a constant internet connection, not unlike what’s required to play Destiny and Tom Clancy’s The Division. 2K Games confirmed the news in a statement to VideoGamer.com. The reason the game requires a constant internet connection is due to the experience for the game’s story mode. Allowing the connection lets the game’s experience carry over from story mode to the multiplayer mode, and vice versa.

2K Games stated: “Battleborn requires an internet connection to play, whether you’re playing single-player, co-operatively with friends, or competitively against others. One of the reasons for this is that experience points earned in Battleborn’s Story Mode carry over to Multiplayer and vice-versa. All XP earned through the game’s persistent progression system contributes to leveling up individual Character Rank, as well as player profile Command Rank. In addition, maintaining data integrity is a major priority for the team, and online gameplay permits player’s data to be accessible, even after experiencing a hardware malfunction or purchasing a new console.”

So the good news to take away from this is that the leveling up for an individual Character Rank and the player profile Command Rank will carry over to both gameplay modes. Battleborn does look like it will have an interesting story mode along with multiplayer. So this could technically be a good thing for the life of the game.

The bad news, however, is that VideoGamer’s report also mentions that PlayStation 4 players will need a PlayStation Plus account to access certain features and gameplay for the game. This is also similar to Destiny and how PlayStation Plus is required for some of the gameplay functionality.

In other Battleborn news, the open beta session is set for April 8 for the PlayStation 4. It will then move to April 13 for Xbox One and Windows PC. Battleborn officially launches on May 3 for PlayStation 4, Xbox One and Windows PC.
