A user on the Metro Wiki brought up a fairly good point - if Artyom was experiencing psychic visions of that airplane in the newest gameplay video, wouldn't a dark one have to be in the vicinity (or alive, for that matter)?

What I thought was it was a flashback of the plane crashing when the nuke went off.

How would Artyom have a "flashback" he was a baby at that time, and wasn't even on the plane.

At another point in the video they specifically mention dark ones, they are alive alright, and no doubt a bit pissed at Artyom.

I think it is one or few of Dark Ones did contact with him a bit often, which probably causes Artyom to have "flashbacks" from them.

    I don't know, really.

Well, there's not much evidence but it isn't like ALL of the dark ones were at the Botanical Gardens when the missiles hit them. There have to be some stragglers.

So true, 4A is following the canon ending, after all...

  8. Okay, here is my theory.

At least one dark one survived. In the non-canon ending we see that there is a Dark One at the bottom of the tower. Which would still be there regardless if the Hive was destroyed or not.

So I assume that surviving dark ones want revenge. And "the person holding a key to the peace in the Metro" is a Dark One.

Didn't the dark ones use the flash backs to communicate with Arytom instead of frying his brain like everyone else?

Is Arytom immune to their mind manipulation or did the Dark Ones prevent Arytom's mind from being turned into scrambled egg as a way to communicate with the human race?

  11. They showed him a few flashbacks, but they didn't use them exclusively. They tried to kill him on the tower by making him jump off through them though.

He is not immune, he is just more resistant to psychic phenomena and more in tune with the dark ones. And they saved him several times, Chase and Lost Catacombs levels for example.

Well, in the book [BOOK SPOILER] Artyom was basically the one who opened the door for the Dark Ones into the Metro, so he always had a special link...

It would be hard to tell either way whether artyom was immune to them or not because they probably knew that he would destroy them so why did they not fry his brain and instead contact an individual who definitely would listen to them and understand

Pretty much what I was getting at. I'll be saving the link to this thread so we can internet-highfive if our assumptions are correct. As for Artyom, yeah I'm fairly sure they used him as an "envoy" of sorts.

No everybody is wrong, there are no Dark Ones left.

Its just the Brain Scorcher somewhere in Moscow and the prisoner is the key technician to it.

    LOL. :D

Who else do you think in the world can make Artyom see illusions?
