Metro Mafia sign-up thread

Discussion in 'News and Announcements' started by Komodo Saurian, Oct 17, 2014.

  1. Alright folks, it's time to start up signing up and freeing up the schedule for the late October/early November this year. Please read the rules carefully if you are willing to participate, I will know if you didn't. Obviously it is impossible to list everything and create fool-proof list of rules, so ask questions if you have any.

TL;DR: Players try to discover and eliminate a group of murderers in their ranks. Read up on the general history of the game here.

Reward: A region-free Metro Redux Bundle copy (PC, PS4 or Xbox 1). The players will be assigned new accounts for the duration of the game to ensure anonymity. Once the game is over, everyone will be free to vote for the best character of the story. Once that is done, the cast will be revealed and the winner will receive the prize.

Premise: A rag-tag expedition has successfully recovered a pre-war artifact with negligible losses, but had to take cover in a derelict bunker due to deteriorating weather conditions on the surface. Unfortunately, several different groups have taken interest in the artifact and will use the opportunity to eliminate competition.

The following groups comprise the expedition:

Mercenaries - Members of this group are the most numerous and are in the the paycheck. They do not know which group each player belongs to. They have no information on who is another mercenary, an undercover operative, the Spartan or the cultist. Their task is to find and eliminate all operatives and the cultist. To reach this goal they participate in the discussion and voting, trying to discover suspicious players and execute them. The voting is always lethal for the chosen mark.

Operatives - They are here for the artifact. They know each other and nobody else. Their task is to find and eliminate all mercenaries, the Spartan and the cultist. In order to reach this goal they can communicate with each other (via Skype, for instance) and decide their next mark for each day in secret, which they send to the GM. They participate in the discussion and voting as mercenaries.

Spartan - He or she is here to make sure the artifact doesn't end up in wrong hands. He or she doesn't know who is who at the start of the game. His or her task is to find and eliminate all operatives and the cultist. In order to reach this goal the Spartan has an ability to secretely "check" other players once per in-game day, by sending his chosen mark's name to the GM, which is fatal for the insane cultist or the operatives and reveals the status of the chosen player to the Spartan. The Spartan participates in the discussion and voting as a mercenary. If the Spartan is eliminated, a new one will appear among the ranks of surviving mercenaries after one in-game day.

Cultist - The cultist is here for the artifact. Nobody else can have it, so everyone will have to die. His or her task is to eliminate every other player. He doesn't know who is who, but can murder anyone once per day by sending his or her chosen mark and the description of the murder to the GM (Get creative). The Cultist participates in the discussion and voting as a mercenary.

Game master - A coordinator of the ensuing manslaughter and doesn't directly participate in the game.

Scary monster - Abducts inactive players and effectively eliminates them from play if they do not participate in the game for a full day.

Depending on the number of players participating in the game, the character roster will change. If there are too many players, over 30 for example, some might have to wait for a second game since it will be next to impossible to manage more than that.

    • 9, 10 or 11 players: 3 operatives and 1 cultist
    • 12, 13 or 14 players: 4 operatives, 1 cultist and 1 Spartan
    • 15, 16 or 17 players: 5 operatives, 1 cultist and 1 Spartan. In the event of Spartan being murdered a new one will appear in one full day among surviving players.
    • 18, 19 or 20 players: 6 operatives who can order the murder of two players in the first day, 1 cultist and 1 Spartan. In the event of Spartan being murdered a new one will appear in one full day among surviving players.
    • 21, 22 or 23 players: 7 operatives who can order the murder of two players in the first two days, 1 cultist and 1 Spartan. In the event of Spartan being murdered a new one will appear in one full day among surviving players.
    • And so on, you get the idea.

    Roleplaying party schedule:

    • The preliminary date of the game is announced. Players willing to participate should write their own name in red for ease of management.
    • Depending on the total number of players the ranks of the expedition are filled up as specified above.
    • Each player receives a login and password combination for their assigned character. This will ensure anonymity and help prevent cheating.
    • The GM will create a new thread for each consecutive in-game day in which all players will hold conversations trying to find out the groups other players belong to. For this specific instance one in-game day will last 48 real hours. This will allow everyone to spend at least a few hours actively participating in the game.
    • By the end of the in-game day each player should vote by coloring the name of their proposed mark red for ease of management. The vote can be changed until the day ends. If several players get the same number of votes, the one who got the last vote earlier is executed.
    • By the end of the in-game day the Operatives should send their proposed mark to the GM (The mark can be changed until the end of the day).
    • By the end of the in-game day the Spartan should send his or her proposed mark to the GM (The mark can be changed until the end of the day).
    • By the end of the in-game day the Cultist should send his or her proposed mark to the GM (The mark can be changed until the end of the day).
    • At the end of each consecutive in-game day the GM will lock the thread and create a new one with the first post containing a quick summary of the events and list the players who were executed by the mercenaries as well as players eliminated by the operatives, the Spartan, the Cultist or dragged away for inactivity.
    • Dead players can choose to show up as ghosts on the following day and leave cryptic and vague advice (As they will not know who killed them specifically) or try and pull off a 20 minute deathbed dialogue without directly participating in the discussion.

The game is considered over when:
    • The mercenaries have eliminated all operatives and the cultist.
    • The operatives have eliminated all mercenaries, the Spartan and the cultist.
    • The cultist has eliminated all mercenaries, all operatives and the Spartan.

The game is considered to end with a draw when:
    • The only surviving players are one operative and one mercenary or the Spartan.
    • The only surviving players are one operative and the cultist.
    • The only surviving players are one mercenary and the cultist.
    • Nobody survived.

The players are not allowed to:
    • Use their real accounts in the game.
    • Give their assigned account to another player.
    • Reveal their own group or reveal other members of their group.
    • Edit their messages after voting.
    • Post out of character messages, flood and spam.

    Addendum #1 (Acceptable voting):

I'll enter myself, Phylkhan, if I at all understand the rules as well as I think I do. Looking forward to being brutally slaughtered.

  12. Well, we've got a bare minimum of players, which is nice.
