I honestly can't even tell when people are being serious in this thread.

    Interesting thread...

Metro: Last Light is thematically a lot less nihilistic than Metro 2033. And although there is still plenty of 'grit', I agree the tone is a little lighter - although a lot of that is down to art direction as much as story-line.

But the dialogue is not, in my opinion, dumbed down - and it is certainly not aimed at a younger, or broader audience. I think you need to remember Dmitry wrote 2033 as a much younger man, based on a story conceived as a teenager, and there are fairly obvious themes of angst and nihilism.

Last Light was written much more recently and reflects, I think, some changes in his own life. Grittier does not necessarily mean more mature - often the opposite .

I adore the Metro series for not adhering to this development decision, at the very lowest level it sets it apart from the monstrous amount of competition it has. Somehow 4A managed to make two games and DLC that are VERY intense like I have seldom seen in any game without falling into the cliches and tropes FPS games of it's era do so often.

I liked it on the PC, but even so it's more of a statement and experience than a game or a great title. I'm always keen to try games that do something different.

I did a video on it (search on youtube "Rushnerd spec ops" first result)
One of the devs thought the video was funny and tweeted it, that's enough for me!
