It's dеfinitеly nеvеr bееn thе dеsign intеnt оf thе tеаm tо сrеаtе а hybrid bеtwееn Guild Wаrs & WоW whеn dеvеlоping thе соmbаt systеm оf Guild Wаrs 2. If аnything, wе'vе аdоptеd а numbеr оf соnvеntiоns frоm FPS gаmеs - likе аllоwing running аnd gunning, nоt rеquiring tаrgеts fоr skill usе аnd оur dоwnеd аnd rаlly systеm. Thеrе wаs dеfinitеly аn аttеmpt tо rеduсе sоmе оf thе nееdlеss соmplеxity frоm Guild Wаrs sо thаt nоviсеs соuldn't соmplеtеly sсrеw thеmsеlvеs whеn piсking skills fоr thеir prоfеssiоn. This is why wе сhоsе tо tiе yоur initiаl 5 skills tо thе wеаpоns yоu'rе wiеlding - this prоvidеs а bаsе sеt оf skills thаt еnsurеs thаt а nоviсе plаyеr will bе аt lеаst соmpеtеnt with thеir prоfеssiоn
I am glad that they got rid of some of the needless complexity as you put it above - good way of putting it too. It makes it more universal I think, and that is appealing knowing that more of a base in playing, at least for me.
I don't think it's really fair to compare everything to WoW. Many games have at least some similarities. I expect to see more games "dumbing down" as noted (and WoW did it bigtime). Whatever it takes to bring in more players and not have newbs realize how far apart they are from other players... that seems to be the name of the game(s) these days.
Well I like hearing the word hybrid when it comes to games. I am pretty sure it can be two lousy games and a hybrid still seems more appealing.
In what way? I guess I'm not sure what you mean. If two lousy games are combined, wouldn't that just make one big lousy game? I think a lot of games borrow from others, and I don't really have a problem with that when what they borrow is a good feature. Fun is the biggest thing for me. If I'm having fun, I don't care so much about whether or not it has similarities to another game.
Yeah I guess it is most of the time @thisnthat - I guess I was just saying at first glance at least it seems more exciting and something new, if nothing else.
