Heard about this as well. Can't say I'm a big fan of either franchise (not saying they're bad, I just never really got into them, though I appreciate their significance and all). However, what has me worried is how will they pull off films with silent protagonists? I'm guessing they will make both Gordon and Chell speak, but their actors and lines will have to be really damn good to live up to fans' expectations. Unless these movies won't be direct adaptations of the stories presented in the games and only set in the same world.
