Okay, so I got to shoot the Kalash after all... but I didn't get to fire a Tokarev as they had it in repair. Instead, I got to shoot a Glock pistol. Overall it was a ton of fun! I've posted the vids in a new thread.
Never fired a gun before but for some reason i cannot stand the sight of my countrys armys main weapon the styre 5.56 i just hate the damn thing
Did you know that Australia means Southern Kingdom, while Austria means Western Kingdom. Atleast, I read so.
Im with you Total, we use pretty much the same guns right arcoss the ditch, I think the 5.56 is pointless for the most part (Noting why in NZ we just put back in a 7.62 LMG FN LMG to replace the 5.56 versions)
I can see how 5.56 in an LMG might be a bad choice. But I do not see why its so bad in regular rifles, we use it in the ak5(insert letter A-D here) here in sweden for example.
When you shoot people if you had a choice between may kill them bullets or will kill them what would you use (a AT4 I say)
Well, given the choice I'd rather not shoot him at all. But if for some reason I had to I'd choose "may kill" bullets. Multiple accurate shots. Wounding him would be preferred to me not only to save myself from the guilt but leave many options open like; interrogation, bait, demoralization and greater cost for the opfor.
5.56 and 5.45 Sized weapons have proved to be pretty good when supported by ample large sized supporting weapons, but if you look at Afghanistan (Soviet era) we saw Platoons go from having no Pk's to having ~5 per platoon as the Ak74 (5.45x39) didnt have the kenitic power, penertration or any real ability to down hostiles effectivly in the type of enviroment of afghanistan. Now, the smaller sized 5.45x39 Round would be a good choice in open Country to Country conflict as its lighter, can achieve more accuracy (Something that seams to only of been achived by Vehicles and the Weapons group in Soviet Doctrain) before hand, the '74 allowed normal soldiers to have decent automatic accuracy. so: 5.56/5.45 = Good with Support And thats something NewZealand is lacking in terms of avalible firepower
But then again the PKM is very bulky and hard to use unlike a 5.56 like Israelis TAR series of weapons also if you are looking for reliable firepower the galil with a beta mag is a great choice and much better than a AK or a UZI these rifles are one of the reasons israile won the battle for gonlin heights
A PKM is a Machinegun, a TAR is a Assault rifle, an UZI is a Machinepistol, Mate, your comparing three utterly different weapon systems here. And what form of Ak, Ak-47 Type or Ak-74 Type? And the Galil Rifle came into use after the 6 Day war, the 6 Day war being in 1967 while the Galil comming into service in the early 70's So: Pk's cannot be compared with non-Machinegun Weapon systems Galils were not used during the 6 Day war (Battle for Golan heights) Galil's are based off an Ak type Mechanism from what I know, so Reliability will probs be less BAM!
