Imagine you're playing a first person shooter and the shot hits the body so violently that it bleeds out. Does this sense of realism put you off? Should gaming be bloodless? A lot of games are rated r-18 due to the amount of blood and decapitation involved.

Well, not really. Some games has an options that if you want to enable or disable it. Well, it's your choice and I really don't mind blood in games.

If people are put off by blood, they need to stop their FPS, TPS, action, adventure, role playing and other games that has to do with killing all together, then go play card games, fishing games, boat simulation and Hello Kitty Adventure. Why shouldn't it be realistic? I think too many people these days are too easily offended about the small things in life.

In some countries, societies are so sensitive about dead people, that they have demanded developers to change the way death happens. Blood is now green or clear. People don't actually die. They get knocked out. Really? Wow.

Why don't they just stop playing games that offend them? It's like porn. Don't like it? Then don't watch it.

Well, let's censor all the blood in the world and possibly just act like humans nor animals have any fluid running through their veins. It's really stupid to censor it because there are more disturbing images in life than some fake digital blood.

In my opinion there is not anything bad if you see blood whilst gaming since there are age limits in games . Which of course no one obeys but at least they exist (note the advanced sarcasm). Game graphics are getting better all the time so maybe it is not a good thing but it hasn't disturbed me.

Furthermore, some even have an option that is called something among the lines of: "blood reduction". It consists of 3 blood levels. The first one is obviously the most gore one, fully-detailed; the second level is of lower quality and doesn't appear much except if you hit the head, and the third one, well, basically doesn't exist. Only a few guts here and there.

I'm a proponent of the idea, "if you don't like it, don't watch." Old school games that had little/no blood but just jumping characters looked ridiculous to me. Customizable levels work great, and everyone should use them if it's too much.

There's no need for that. Games have ratings aimed for different audiences, if you don't like blood then you're not old enough to play the game :p.

Seriously true. When I'm killing an enemy (especially one that has been giving me a hard time), I want to turn them into a blood fountain while I do a victory dance. If games are going to push for realism, then it is ridiculous that they want to sensor something like blood, especially when the game deals with fighting people or other creatures. When you injure someone, they tend to bleed and that is what's expected.

Absolutely not. Adding realism to enemy bleeding out and dying that way instead of insta-death is a cool concept if you ask me, and I'd definitely love to see it.

Definitely not. If anything we need more gore these days, It's been toned down so much over the years.

Absolutely not. It's ridiculous how the media tries to blame violence on video games... just because its easier than tackling the problem of mental issues and gun control (also, it makes people think, which is hard!).

No, but game devs should put an option for a "no blood mode". There's actually a command in CS:GO where you can play in low-violence mode. There is no blood when you shoot someone and when they reach 0 hp, the character model surrenders and lay down on the ground instead of "dieing".

It shouldn't be banned, but I'm gonna play devil's advocate here. I think the issue we're now facing is that we're running into desensitization of it. Violence is a part of life and reality, but at the same time I can't help but wonder just how much saturation will mess with society's perception after a certain point. I mean honestly it's pretty messed up that people have become so blind to what's real and what's not that there's lots of stories about people finding dead bodies and thinking they're decorations or props. Then there's the fact that so many people clamor and romanticize war and scream for bombing entire nations without fully understanding or comprehending the full scope of what that would entail. Hell, active shooting incidents is becoming routine.

I don't know- I may be skewed in my views because my family faced first hand the ugliness of war and violence as well as the years of after effects. It's a bit unnerving to hear kids talking about bodies exploding and bleeding out like they were talking about the weather. I don't blame media for violence in the same manner many people would, but violence sells ratings in news and some of the most successful franchises in modern television history is rooted in gore and violence. I mean the shows US parents grew up on in the 70's was covered in violence as well. I know the difference between reality and fabrication because of my personal experiences in life and my family's suffering and unwilling involvement in war, but many people don't because they were lucky enough to grow up in a place/generation where they can luxuriate the romantic notions of warfare and violence.

If anything, games should have MORE gore. I hate censorship. I want to see blood and guts flying everywhere in games. The more extreme, the better. I think FPS games should show bullet holes in the models with blood draining out, that would be so bad ass!

I think it makes it much more violent than it needs to be. I don't remember COD having blood. Maybe it did, but I don't think it's necessary at all.

I haven't really been grossed out by blood in games. I mean, if I'm in the hospital and sees patients with blood running down their faces or necks, that's what's going to get me grossed out. Or maybe an accident that involves casualties with blood, I'm pretty sure I'm going to be shocked when I see that. But blood in games? Not really since I know it's not real anyway.

I don't know. I mean, if it's a game where an injury is expected or whatever, then I guess the blood adds to the feel of really being in the game. But there's no point just putting in gruesome scenes for no reason.

What? No, blood shouldn't be banned. We are going for realism in a lot of our games nowadays and blood helps with that.

Stick with children's games if it bothers you.

I guess game makers can just add that option of decreasing gruesome levels for people who cannot take it. But of course some gamers love gruesome and realistic graphics and won't like the idea of removing blood in games. There just has to be something for everyone out there who loves gaming.
