Devoted Fan of Diablo 2 but haven't played D3 yet. Is it worth it?

I played Diablo 2 as a kid, and in fact it was a big part of my childhood. I played every character through every level through every difficulty. When I heard of the news that it was getting a third game, I was excited. But when the game reviews were out, the results were less than favorable. D2 was my favorite game growing up, and I'd rather not ruin its memory by playing a substandard sequel. That's why I haven't played D3 yet. Am I missing out? Is it worth it?

 

I feel diablo 3 is a totally different game than diablo 2 and it will appeal more to world of worldcraft players. Path of exile is a game that platys more like diablo 2 in my opinion.
