The announcement trailer for DoW3 came out recently and it's epic. Really gets the atmosphere of the universe spot on, plus the visuals remind me of BeksiĆski. Easily the best trailer I've seen in years. Hopefully they will make it more like the first one this time, but without ignoring the good aspects of DoW2. Of course, CG trailers aren't representative of the final product at all, but this one is just pure art to me.
Dang! This looks fucking awesome. I have yet to play any of the DOW games; however, I do own the first one and it is just gathering dust atop of a shelf. I know T-Aaron is a big fan of the franchise and even began writing a book based in the DOW universe (which was quite good from what I read from it). If you want to know anything DOW related, he's the guy to talk to
Oh hell yeah! Time to purge the Xenos from our mother system! For the Emperor! At 2:00 are those Wraith Knights? oh hell yeah
Tau have always been my favourite faction in the Warhammer 40K universe, so I really hope they don't make them paid DLC... but since they don't appear in the trailer, that will probably be the case.
I never thought about them that way tbh, but you're right - they are really similar to mechs and all. Still, I was mostly interested in them due to them being some kind of pseudo-utopian (but in reality twisted) authoritarian socialist empire (which is of course an oxymoron).
See the interesting thing about the Tau in my opinion is how easy it is to get on their good side, there have been many times the Tau has worked hand in hand with the Imperium of man because of a false sense of friendliness. it wont spoil much but at one point a so called diplomatic mission between the Tau and Humanity was used as a way to sneak through their defenses and kill their leadership. Another thing of interest is the fact they are the only real alien species to share planets with humans, in some cases both occupy a straight half of the planet and a semi cold war happens between them, this leads to many humans trying to emulate the Tau in how they see the universe "Greater good and all that" and it is not uncommon to see civil war break out because of it. And thats not even mentioning the fact that although they far outclass the human army gun for gun they are very rare to strike first, which means many easily won engagments become a slaughter as Adeptus Astartus and Inquisition Forces are quick to reinforce a planetary defense force and a easy capture becomes a slog through hell
That's true, but it all makes sense. They are almost the "good guys" in a dystopian universe of absolute pricks (humans are pretty much full on fascists in Warhammer 40K). And I say almost the good guys because there does seem to be this "not all is as happy as it seems" aspect to them, what with some of that mind control stuff and all, which I've heard was added later on because the Tau at first were just too perfect for the grimness of W40K.
