It looks like noted video game producer, designer and director Warren Spector is getting back into the development saddle. OtherSide Entertainment announced in an official press release today that the developer behind such titles as System Shock, Deus Ex and more will be the joining the company to lead the development team for System Shock 3.

Spector more recently worked on Disney Interactive’s two Epic Mickey games for Junction Point Studios. He also oversaw the Denuis-Sam Gaming Academy post-baccalaureate program at the University of Texas Austin. Per the official press release, Spector has been a creative adviser for OtherSide Entertainment since the studio first began.

After the end of this semester’s classes at UT Austin, Spector plans to transition to a full-time position as a Studio Director for OtherSide. In addition, Spector will continue on in a creative capacity for Underworld Ascendant. Development on System Shock 3 is set to speed up later this year.

Spector previously collaborated with OtherSide’s team members, including founder Paul Neurath on the original Ultima Underworld games, Thief: The Dark Project and the first System Shock. According to Neurath, Spector will serve in a director role at OtherSide.

Speaking on the announcement, OtherSide founder Paul Neurath stated: “I’m delighted to have Warren stepping up into a director role at OtherSide and helping lead the charge with our innovative approach to gaming. I can think of no one better suited to take on this creative challenge. Warren has changed the industry before and will do so again.”

System Shock 3 was announced late last year. This will be the first System Shock game since System Shock 2 was originally released for Windows PC in 1999.
