Ubisoft Won’t Make The Division 2 Political For Business Reasons

by on October 21, 2018

Will The Division 2 get darker and more political in nature? What’s Ubisoft’s thoughts on this?

Putting messages into video games (outside of the obvious ones for story sake) is a tried and true tradition. This goes especially for titles that have the perfect setting to do such messaging. When you look at The Division 2, you might think that this world is perfect for a message about what the world will be like if we keep going on the path we’re going. But for Ubisoft, they have no interest in doing such messaging. For according to COO Alf Condelius, that would betray the game, which he dubs a “fantasy”. Furthermore, doing such tactics might hurt the game in his mind:

“It’s also bad for business, unfortunately, if you want the honest truth…. but it is interesting and it is a discussion that we have, and it’s an ongoing discussion we have with our users, of course, because people want to put an interpretation into the universe that we create and they want to see their own reality in the fantasies that we give them, and the stories that the games are.”

The Division is scheduled to release on console and PC next year.
