Focus Home Interactive officially revealed some new screenshots today for the upcoming RPG Call of Cthulhu. The upcoming game is based on the pen and paper RPG by Chaosium of the same name. The new images are available in the gallery below. Click on the thumbnails to see the full-size images.

The new screens showcase the environments of Darkwater Island and its horrifying locals. Players will take the role of Edward Pierce to investigate the death of Sarah Hawkins. The investigation pushes Pierce’s sanity to its limits to uncover the disturbing truth that blends psychological horror with stealth game mechanics.

For the game, Focus describes Pierce as a war veteran-turned-private detective. The story is set in 1920s Boston. Pierce’s investigation of Sarah Hawkins leads him to the fringe of the paranormal world, and reality and illusion starts to blend.  The game is inspired the dark works of writer H.P. Lovecraft. It’s meant to pit players in a desperate struggle against dark powers that defy all belief. The game will focus on going to the bring of insanity, which is a common concept in Cthulhu lore. Players will start to get closer to the sphere of influence of the Great Dreamer, and that will draw players deeper into a world of madness.

Call of Cthulhu is being developed for consoles and Windows PC. It’s slated for a 2017 release.
