Fallout 4 is easily going to be one of the largest titlesĀ ever attempted in the video game genre. According to Bethesda, the world of Fallout 4 is multiple times larger that it’s other title Skyrim. Because of the vastness of the world, and the quests the game has in it, numerous time was dedicated to the voice over for the main character, which can be either male or female. For the female main character, they were voiced byĀ Courtenay Taylor. Who chatted recently with IGN to talk about what doing VO was like in Fallout 4.
Not only did Taylor note that 13,000 lines she recorded made it into the games final version, but also that she didn’t know she was auditioning for Fallout 4 at first.
“I didnāt know for a few weeks that it was Fallout 4 I was auditioning for. In general I donāt ask too many questions, because I donāt wanna know too much. I keep my eyes in front of me because I donāt wanna know. Within the actual process of doing the work they gave us this amazing director in Kal-El Bogdanove. He really facilitated this amazing world without giving us a ton of info at the beginning. – it wasnāt like he sat us down and said āhereās the story and this is how it ends.ā As we moved through it the environment was explained to us in really rich terms. But there was no table read at the beginning, like a TV show or a movie.”
Taylor went on to note that part of the fun of Fallout 4 was the script, which excited her on numerous levels.
“Iāve never worked this long on a game and I think that does affect my excitement but also the material is great. The writing is great. It is exactly what you would expect from a Fallout game, but better – itās more immersive. Theyāve taken it to a new level. Thereās no stone thatās been unturned. Itās like ā I went to Pixar, in Emeryville once. And they were talking about the movie Cars, and the level of detail in Cars. In every car, they would know what was in the glove box, even if the glove box is never opened, these creators would know exactly what was inside. You couldnāt just say āoh, I have no ideaā. Detail is fleshed out completely. And it rung the same for me on Fallout 4. Even if the camera never goes there, we know itās there. And the effect of that level of detail is going to be apparent.”
Fallout 4 comes to Xbox One, PS4, and PC November 10th.
